April is our anniversary month, which means it is also the month we renew our lease. We had to make a tough decision this month and decided it would be best to give up some of our space. We are moving all operations into the downstairs studios space and giving up the upstairs gallery and performance space. We will also keep our studios on Central. While we were bummed about having to do it, we have come to the realization that the traditional gallery space just doesn’t make enough money to pay for itself. It was difficult to keep emotions from coming into the equation, but in the end it is purely a business decision.
Chroma Studios is still here, we still have our studio spaces and we will still have a small gallery space downstairs as well. We will move it all downstairs by the beginning of May, so our May and June 1st Friday openings will be in the new, smaller gallery. After June we will not participate in the 1st Friday events every month. At the beginning of May we will also go back to being open by appointment only. In time the website will be set up for direct sales, there will be some sort of shopping cart set up so you can buy art online. We will still hold open studios events two times a year.
All April events, ie Downtown Artscrawl (tonight!) and Intimate concerts (April 17th, 22nd and 23rd), will still happen. Much thanks goes out to everyone who has supported Chroma Studios and to our amazing community of artists who have been so supportive in our decision. We love you all!
By the way, thanks to whoever put our name in for the Alibi’s “Best of Burque”, we were named the “Best artist community” this year!
