Chroma Studios

Calls For Artists

Call For Art Intern:

Chroma Studios is currently looking for an Art Intern. Preferably someone who is an artist or going into the art field. We need someone who is looking for some experience for their resume to help us out a few hours a week here at the gallery. Paperwork, gallery sitting, hanging art, cataloging art, posting to the website and yes, some cleaning, are just a few of the tasks you will be performing. This is an unpaid internship, but the experience is invaluable!

If you are interested, send your resume and a cover letter to Paula Manning-Lewis at chromastudios@comcast.net.

No phone calls please! We will review email submissions and get in touch with you for an interview.

Call For Artists:

We are no longer accepting new artists in the gallery. Even with over 3,000 square feet of space, we are currently overflowing with great work!

You may still submit your work to us by email ONLY. Please send your statement/bio and several images of your work in jpeg format to chromastudios@comcast.net. Please do NOT drop in at the gallery with your work, we don’t have time to look at your work unless we have made an appointment with you in advance.

Hey, I’m Scott and I own white design. I’ve been in a few galleries around town. I’m currently in Sumner/Dene and have sold 4 pieces in the last few weeks. I love your commission, would you consider furniture? My website has views of my work as well as my view on my work.

I’m very interested in your gallery representation. I’d appreciate another opportunity to share my landscape paintings, cards, and books. Additionally, I am commissioned as the poster artist for the Balloon Fiesta this year, and that may serve as a promotion link for your space.
    Thank you, Meg

What are you doing besides artscrawl and regular gallery openings to promote your artists? How long have you been in business? What kind of insurance do you carry? Can you supply a list of references? Thanks.

Greg, in answer to your questions, I do a LOT of internet networking and promotion for our artists. We promote the gallery on twitter, facebook, myspace, local site Duke City Fix and many others. We have also had coverage of the gallery on channel 7 news at 6 with follow up coming soon. We are going to be featured on the Alibi website in the next week or so. We plan to join the Downtown Action Team and the AVCB and possibly the Chamber of Commerce. I also blog regularly and attended in person networking events and sit on the board for the AABA. Chroma Studios (my husband & I plus 2 of our artists) volunteered for the Arts Alliance Bravos Awards dinner this year.
Chroma Studios has been in business for 13 months, but I have been a working artist here in Albuquerque for 9 years with many, many connections in the art scene. I have been a professional artist for 18 years with plenty of experience in the gallery world, having managed a gallery in Colorado and owned my own frame shop in Las Cruces, not to mention showing my work in several galleries in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and across the country.
We are waiting to hear back from our insurance agent as far as the insurance goes, but our landlord does have insurance to cover the building and it’s contents. I suggest until we get that covered that our artists supply their own insurance. However, that being said, I personally guarantee any of my artist’s work against damage or theft. In other words, if something happens while your work is in my gallery, I will pay your commission to you as if it had sold! I have personally had bad experiences with galleries not paying for damaged work, so I am very sensitive to this issue.
As far as references go, you are free to contact any of our artists thru their links on the sidebar of this website. Also feel free to talk with Joan Fenicle from the AABA, Judy Anderson or Will Reichard who are board members on the Arts Alliance. I am very confident that any of these people will give me an outstanding reference.

I plan to come out to Placitas for the studio tour this weekend, so perhaps I will make it by your studio. Thanks for your interest (everyone) and I look forward to seeing your work! Paula :)

Please email images of your work. I am so very busy with the new space that I don’t have time to contact artists on an individual basis unless I get a submission via email. Thank you! Paula :)

    Dear Paula:

It was great meeting you at Go! Albuquerque Arts last weekend. I’m interested in representation by Chroma and plan to come by and check out your space this weekend or before. As I mentioned, I am showing Friday-Sunday at the Easel Place in Old Town. Thanks for your interest in my clayboard art,
    Mickey Bond
